Providing canines and owners exceptional care, compassion, and education for over 15 years. Jami pursued her passion for dogs years ago by founding a highly successful and reputable dog walking company in New York City. During this time she discovered her passion for helping dogs and their owners build a better relationship through training. This is how Advanced Canine Companions came to life.
From shelter pup to top dawg. Jameson had found himself in need of a forever home at the age of 2. Regardless of multiple inquiries for adoption, his challenges exceeded what most pet owners could handle. Jami adopted him and set to work. Jamo went from a stray without the understanding of how to be a pet to becoming a spectacular companion and demonstration dog.

OUR APPROACH IS BALANCED TRAINING. WE FIND WHAT MOTIVATES EACH INDIVIDUAL DOG WHILE ALSO SETTING RULES AND BOUNDARIES.
OUR DOGS ARE LEARNING THE DAY WE BRING THEM HOME. TRAINING CAN BEGIN AS SOON AS IMMUNIZATIONS HAVE BEEN STARTED
TRAINING IS DONE WHEREVER WE EXPECT TO TAKE OUR DOGS. IF WE WANT THEM TO OBEY ANYWHERE, TRAIN EVERYWHERE
TRAINING IS PERSONALIZED TO EACH DOGS CHALLENGES AND OWNERS GOALS. PRICING IS ESTABLISHED AND CUSTOMIZED DURING OUR EVALUATION.
Matt and I found Shadow sleeping in our backyard in March. He came along with many of the issues you would expect of a stray- aggression, anxiety, and obedience issues. We spent about 2 months training him on our own before we realized we were in over our heads. Shadow was being too aggressive towards strangers and quickly heading toward re-homing or worse. We contacted Jami in early June and she was available to come meet Shadow within 24 hours. She evaluated Shadow and determined he was best fit for a boarding program. Within two weeks, Shadow was a different dog. He followed my every command, his aggression improved, and walked on the leash like a champ. Jami met with us multiple times to help us work through our obstacles. Shadow continued to improve with each session. Now he is the life of the party- he loves to play, and do tricks, and cuddle. I have cautiously introduced him to dozens and dozens of people since Jami's training and he has continued to impress me! I credit Jami with all his success!! She saved his life! Thank you for everything, Jami!! Shadow thanks you too!
If I could leave Jami ten stars, I would. We adopted Sammy at the beginning of December 2020 and he had a difficult transition into our home. He became very territorial, aggressively so, and started nipping people. We were worried that we would not be able to give him a safe and happy home. We did the week long board and train with Jami, followed by eight private lessons. After just a few weeks, Sammy blossomed into a different dog (and we are more competent dog-parents). He is relaxed, calm, and gentle. His dietary habits have improved dramatically. He ignores stimuli when we’re out on walks and focuses on us. We can safely have people into our home again (corner than covid concerns). He is a delight and clearly happier. We are all happier. I don’t know that we would have gotten here without Jami’s help. We are immensely grateful
Before we met Jami, our new puppy Sam was extremely wild and didn't listen or pay attention to anyone or anything. We have other dogs but Sam was proving to be very, very difficult, to the point we started to feel uncomfortable having our grandchildren over the house as they are all younger than 3 and he would knock them over by jumping on them to try and play. After a lot of research and a suggestion from our Vet we decided to work with Jami. Since we made that decision it is like we have a new dog! Sam is the same playful and loving dog, but now he actively listens to commands on and off of his leash, he walks outside without pulling and running away from us, he pays more attention to his surrounding, and even can be left alone in a room without eating everything! Jami was extremely patient, not only with Sam but with us as well, she taught us step by step how to continue and reinforce the training, she was open and responsive to any questions we had even when it was outside of our scheduled training time, and then she would make sure to work on our specific concerns in the next session. Jami was extremely friendly, personable, professional, flexible with scheduling, and most importantly really cared about Sam.
We got Perry as a rescue dog when he was 6 years old. We took him home and immediately fell in love, he was sweet cuddly and very good at picking up on emotions and making people feel better. However, as time went on and the honeymoon period ended, we found out that he had a lot of anxiety and things that triggered him off to start barking and lunging. Perry’s previous owner was elderly and died in the house with him in there and as he was in the country was stuck in the home with him for several days. When the shelter people came, he was scared and wouldn’t let them touch him as they took him away from his home. Because of this every time we would have friends over, he would think that they would take him away from us forever and he would panic and bark and there would be no way to get through to him. He was scared by everything when we went on walks so we could only walk him at night. We had to deliberately wait to take him outside until the neighbors we share a property line with were not out because he would freak out. We knew we had to do something to help him with this anxiety. We tried every possible training method we could find. We tried the treating method to treat him when he didn’t get scared, we tried training sessions at Petco, and we tried keeping him away from scary things so he would learn to trust us fully. We had some success, but nothing worked to cure his anxiety. Eventually our vet recommended Jami and we got in contact with Jami for an evaluation session. She said that with this method we could have all these behaviors gone by the end of the sessions. We were skeptical but were willing to do whatever we could to help our dog. Jaime came to our house to work with Perry and us every week during the summer and taught us how to use all the equipment and explained all the theory behind the program as we advanced. It was a lot of work but by the end of the summer it succeeded. We can now take Perry on walks in the day time, we can take him outside and he ignores all the scary things, we can take him to public places, and he has a great time! Perry is now much happier, and his anxiety is now gone, and our lives are much better.
I adopted Baxter, a 4-yr. old Jack Russell Feist, in late December and the two of us bonded immediately! However, after only 2 weeks Baxter quickly became very territorial of me and my home – growling at visitors and even snarling and lunging at people who came close to me if he was sitting nearby. I called the shelter and was sadly going to return him, but they asked if I’d allow a behavior modification trainer to come access the situation. I was very skeptical but willing to try anything. Enter Jamie, the miracle worker!! After interacting with us for about an hour, she was positive these behavior patterns could be changed with training and I agreed to try her methods. That was the best decision I’ve ever made! I’d had dogs all my life and never had one with aggressive behavior, so like most dog owners I was happy if they were friendly, came (usually!) when called, were housebroken, and didn’t pull me down the street when going for walks. Jamie not only had to train Baxter, she also had to educate and train me! Baxter had taken over as the alpha dog, and Jamie taught me how to win his respect and obedience and become the boss again in my own home. Her training methods were nothing short of amazing. In one month, Baxter was a totally different dog. He now sits, lays, and heels on command, automatically coming to a sit next to me the moment I stop walking. The gem of his training is the “down-stay” – laying down on a designated spot and staying there until I release him. Doesn’t matter where the spot is, he patiently waits for me to give him the ok to get up again. He is now calm and laid back because he trusts me to make all the decisions and let him know what I expect from him. As perfectly behaved as he now is, he’s also just as playful and friendly as before and he's always happy to meet new people and be petted and fussed over. All this was done, of course, through many hours of practice and tons of praise – for both Baxter and for me!! Jamie was my cheerleader every step of the way when I was doubtful or discouraged, teaching and encouraging me on how to handle Baxter correctly. Like she’s explained, it’s a lot like raising a child – they need to learn to trust you to make good, safe decisions and to know they can rely on you to take the lead, so they don’t need to ever be nervous or stressed out. I also had to learn to be 100% consequent in praise as well as discipline, never letting him get away with anything. I had no idea what an absolute joy it could be to have such a well-mannered dog, and I am so proud when people stop to comment on how great he is everywhere we go! My mother lives in a senior living facility and all the residents are thrilled when he visits, shaking hands with him and sneaking him treats – he’s the darling of the facility and the staff have asked me where he did his “therapy dog” training! He hasn’t, of course…he’s just been trained by Jamie, the best in the business! I can never thank her enough for giving me Baxter, my best friend and companion!
Jami was great! Our French Bulldog had 3 major issues: (1) She was attacking our other dog (2) She would urinate in her crate (3) She was out of control when we tried to take her on walks or let her meet people or animals. Before we reached out, we were at wits' end, thinking we might need to rehome her just to keep our other dog safe. However, when Jami came to our house for a consultation, she quickly evaluated our dog and demonstrated WITH OUR DOG that all of these behavior issues CAN be addressed. Although we had our doubts along the way, we're SO GLAD that we kept faith in Jami and in the training process. The training addressed all 3 of our dog's issues! As a result, our home is now a much calmer place. We are no longer the frustrated and stressed out dog owners that we were just a couple months ago. Thank you, Jami!
